The Buddy Program
Girl Scout Troop 17405 were told to look around their community and
explore potential problems that they could "fix" or improve. One area of concern brought to the group was
younger students at CE not having anyone to "look" after them at
school. After some discussion, it was
determined that other schools have a program in place through their safety
patrol program to help younger students in addition to flag and car rider/day
care duties. The girls decided that as a
group they wanted to implement a "buddy" program as part of the
safety patrol program at CE. With
guidance from the other girls that already have a program in place, the girls
came up with what they hoped to implement at CE. Below is the proposal that I received from the troop.
Hi, we are girl scouts from troop 1740 and we are working on
our bronze award project. Our program is called the buddy program and we would
like to start it here at Cimarron.
The main idea of the buddy program is to help kids get to class
because we know how easy it is to get lost in such a big school when you are
younger. We would basically just help younger students get to where they need
to be. We believe that this program is necessary because you don’t want people
getting lost in the school and be late for class because then they could
possibly get into trouble.
The buddy program not only would help kids get to class we
could also cheer them up if they seem sad that way more people will be happy at
school! We can also help people carry things to their class or wherever it
needs to be if it seems like too much for them to handle. Our plan for where the buddies will be located is right down
the two main hallways we could have roughly 2-5 buddies in each hallway.
In our troop we have some girls that don’t go to Cimarron;
their names are Mallory, Amaris, Elizabeth, Exel, Alayna, and Korynn. Although
they do not go to Cimarron they do have a program sort of like this one. Our troop 17405 really hopes we can get this project working
smoothly. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Troop 17405 I was so impressed with their approach and initiative to work with my secretary to get on my calendar to meet with me, and their adherence to all the deadlines that we set during our meetings. I see some strong business women coming out of this group, and this a testament to their parents and the skills that they are learning as girl scouts. Way to contribute to our school, girls!
That's my girl!
