Rachel Helmcamp, 4th Grade Teacher

Fourth Grade Fractured Fairy Tales

The past few weeks we have discussed folktales and drama. This week we decided to combine both genres and have our students perform a fractured fairy tale for the class. Students were able to choose from two reader’s theater plays. Students had a day to define and describe the elements of drama, a day to rehearse, and a day to perform.

Boy what fun they had! Some of my quietest students were speaking in their loudest voices and with accents. We all got a great laugh! The best part, of course, was our students were interacting with one another in a cooperative setting and learning about the elements of drama while doing it.
