Day 33, Kelli Tharp-2nd Grade Teacher

Second Grade Writing Workshop Celebration

The second graders have been working so hard launching the writer’s workshop!!!  They began launching by brainstorming with a partner using their pictures from their writing folder and their heart map. After brainstorming they began changing  their tiny seed ideas into stories. Next they were taught how to revise and edit their stories as they went through the writing process. Then they were to choose one story to continue to revise and edit with a partner. Partners were also instructed to give a star and a wish about each other’s story.

Finally it was time for the students to fix up and fancy up their writing in order to publish it. The second grade teachers were so impressed with the students hard work and awesome stories that they decided to throw a “Writing Celebration” with an apple juice toast. All of the Cimarron staff members were invited to join.

During the “Writing Celebration,” the students  toasted one another and then went around and shared their writing with a member from another class. We ended the celebration with a cheer “We will, we will, write on, write on!!” The students thoroughly enjoyed this and were proud of themselves for all of their hard work!!

Some of the student comments were:

Issac-“AWESOME!”

Matthew-“It was really cool, because I love the apple juice!”

Jared -“I loved the cheer at the end!”

Ben -“It was pretty awesome and I liked that I got to share my long story!”

Lily- “ It was fun to hear the other people’s stories.”

Cricket-“I loved the toast!”
